FLYER 6th WinterCourse Hematopathology
Course description:
The Winter Course Haematopathology is intended for general surgical pathologists, pathologists with special interest in haematopathology and for pathologists in training/residents. The learning objective of this hybrid educational activity is the improved competence in the integrated diagnostic approach to bone marrow and lymphoid tissue lesions. The sessions emphasize that both clinical data, morphologic and immunophenotypic features and molecular genetics are mandatory components to optimize the comprehensive diagnostic evaluation of specimens thus contributing to treatment decision-making.
A comprehensive guide to non-neoplastic normal and reactive bone marrow and lymphoid tissues and the spleen will be presented by Prof. Dr. Beham-Schmid and Prof. Dr. Ott.
Prof. Dr. Fend will explore how to best use practical molecular diagnostics to explore the genetic landscape of hematologic neoplasms and explain their application for diagnostics and management decisions.
Important topics of the course are tackling the challenges of the actual diagnostic assessment of myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms according to WHO HAEM5 and the International Consensus classifications.
Prof. Dr. Arber, Prof. Dr. Orazi and Prof. Dr. Ott will discuss major overlap and important differences between both classifications. The complex landscape of myeloid disorders will be presented by Prof. Dr. Kvasnicka, Prof. Dr. Sotlar, Prof. Dr. Orazi, Prof. Dr. Reiter, Prof. Dr. Schmitt-Graeff and Prof. Dr. Arber.
Prof. Dr. Ott will review the broad spectrum of lymphoid neoplasms of B-cell and T-cell lineage.
Haematolympoid disorders in the immunocompromised patient will be summarized by Prof. Dr. Schmitt-Graeff.
The differential diagnoses between extramedullary haematoid-lymphoid vs soft tissue lesions will be highlighted by Prof. Dr. Agaimy and Prof. Dr. Schmitt-Graeff.
Attendees can expect to increase awareness of pearls and pitfalls of myeloid and lymphoid lesions in all 4 sessions. The current diagnostic issues will be illustrated by the presentation of challenging cases by the faculty in interaction and discussion with the attendees.
Dr. Hauspurg and Prof. Dr. Duerkop will focus on the comprehensive evaluation including clinical data, immunophenotypic and genetic characterization to optimize the work-up of bone marrow samples.
The last part of the course is dedicated to discussion of challenging cases presented by attendees using life microscopy or online facilities.
