 Dear Colleagues,It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the 2026 XXXVI Congress of the International Academy of Pathology in Fukuoka, bringing together the most enthusiastic and dedicated scholars in the field of pathology. Our goal is to create a unique platform where the latest advancements, challenges, and debates in diagnostic and molecular pathology are shared and discussed.This biennial international congress on pathology will be held jointly with the 72nd Autumn Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pathology, which is held annually in Japan.As the theme of this year’s congress is “Vision for the Future”, we would like to hold a joint session in the sense of a new challenge that is not bound by the conventional format for the continued development of IAP. Key topics in molecular pathology including spatial transcriptome analysis and artificial intelligence will be explored across various subspecialties, reflecting the evolving landscape of our field. We will also provide the programs on basic issues in pathology such as the educational system and infectious diseases, so far.We are confident that the vibrant city of Fukuoka and its International Convention Center will offer the ideal environment to accomplish these goals. Fukuoka City is a compact and comfortable city, and you can easily visit historical shrines or temples in the downtown area. Editor’s Academy
USCAP and Modern Pathology are seeking candidates for the Editor’s Academy, a program designed to provide junior faculty with peer review training and experience under the mentorship of distinguished leaders in the field.
Modern Pathology is a high-impact international journal that aims to provide an authoritative platform for publishing the highest quality clinical and translational research studies in pathology.
This opportunity is open to pathologists who
- Have an MD or equivalent
- Hold a faculty appointment at the level of instructor, assistant professor or equivalent in an academic institution
- Are members of USCAP
- Demonstrate academic productivity with at least three abstract submissions to the USCAP annual meeting for the past three years and 10 publications, at least five of which are first author
Applications will be accepted from October 15–November 30, 2025

Berufung als Mitglied in die Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften Leopoldina
Prof. Dr. Irene Esposito, Direktorin des Instituts für Pathologie am Universitätsklinikum Düsseldorf und Präsidentin der Deutschen Division der IAP wurde in die Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften Leopoldina berufen und vertritt dort die Sektion Pathologie und Rechtsmedizin.
IAP 2026 – The XXXVI International Congress of the IAP

IAP2026 will take place in Fukuoka, Japan. Hosted by the IAP Japan Division, the Congress theme is Vision for the Future. The Congress website is now live and includes a Welcome Letter from Congress President Yoshinao Oda.
Prof. Ray McMahon verstorben
Die Pathologengemeinschaft trauert um Prof. Ray McMahon, der am 18. Februar 2025 nach kurzer Krankheit verstorben ist. Prof. McMahon war nicht nur in der britischen Division der IAP, sondern auch international anerkannt und geschätzt. Er engagierte sich viele Jahre unermüdlich als Sekretär der IAP International und war designierter Präsident unserer Dachorganisation. Für viele seiner Schüler war er ein beeindruckender Lehrer, der immer ein offenes Ohr für ihre Fragen hatte. Wir werden ihm ein ehrendes Andenken bewahren. Unsere Anteilnahme gilt seiner Familie.
